Atlanta Brings Home Its First International Canstruction Award

Posted on June 6th, 2014

Thanks to our team of Canstruction volunteers we brought home the 2014 International Award for Best Use of Labels! It took months of volunteer time, hard work, design tweaks, and heavy lifting for the TPP team to complete the project, but it was well worth it for everyone involved. 1200 local winners in 124 cities across the globe competed for the honor of an International Award. This is the first time a team from Georgia has won an award at the international level. Congratulations to TPP’s volunteers on this incredible recognition!

This past year’s Canstruction efforts had thousands of teams of architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and other industry professionals working together to design and build some really creative 3D structures made entirely out of cans of food! All of the cans used were donated to food banks to help stock food pantries and provide thousands of families and local organizations with food. Atlanta’s Canstruction helped to support the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

The five winners and five runners up of the 21st Annual Canstruction International Design Competition were honored last month at the Society for Design Administration’s Annual Convention.

Best Use of Labels - Teach a Man to Fish - Cropped
Best Use of Labels:
Our design, “Teach a Man to Fish” utilized a wide spectrum of labels and colors to create a 3D colorful mosaic of a father teaching his son to fish. Our theme was meant to illustrate the work of the Atlanta Community Food Bank and its impact beyond simply handing out food in the local community, to educating the community for a lasting change.

About Canstuction®:
Canstruction® is a unique charity which hosts competitions, exhibitions and events showcasing colossal structures made entirely out of full cans of food. After the structures are built, the creations go on display to the public as a giant art exhibition. At the end of the event, all food is donated to local hunger relief organizations. Canstruction events are held annually in over 150 cities around the world including North America, Australia, South America, Europe and Asia.

About The Atlanta Community Food Bank®:
The Atlanta Community Food Bank doesn’t simply hand out food; they educate our community about hunger and poverty issues, help build community gardens, and support thousands of local organizations such as church food pantries, childcare centers, senior centers, and community kitchens. In turn, these local agencies provide low-income Georgians with life-changing resources.

Both are very praiseworthy causes, and you can donate to Canstruction and the Atlanta Community Food Bank by clicking on the photos below:
